REVIEW: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

So I've finished reading this amazing story over again and I can simply say that it was like I hadn't read it before because I felt everything as if I were experiencing it for the first time. This novel wasn't what I thought it would be. Let me explain . . . first time I saw this novel as a rec for what to read, I just shrugged it off and thought it couldn't possibly be that great. I didn't even think it was a romance type novel because of the cover of the book. As I said before, don't judge a book by its cover. So I continued to search for recs of what to read and this novel kept popping up, I gave in and read the reviews. With so much praise for this novel I thought, I have to check this out!
I got the novel and read it two days, yep that fast because I really couldn't stop reading. It held me and kept me captive from the very first chapter till the end. The story is told from the POV of the heroine Abby Abernathy who has moved away from her hometown with her best friend America to get away from her bad family life. I'll keep the spoilers to a minimum. What Abby didn't anticipate or want was the campus bad boy being interested in her. He was familiar for her but not in a good way. They settle on becoming friends until a bet changed everything.
Alt. Cover
Travis Maddox is a tattooed sexy bad boy that all the girls want and most of them have. He's like that guy you know you can't take home to meet the parents but you find yourself drawn to him even though you know you should just look the other way. For me, I realized that Travis really had it bad for Abby or "Pigeon" as he calls her from the start. It whole school, everyone except Abby realizes this. The depth of feelings that he develops for her throughout this book is borderline insane. He's possessive, has a short fuse and a teensy bit obsessive. Maybe that's not right; he's very obsessive. Not a good combination but on Travis it works and you find out he's insecure and doesn't think much of himself. Both of them have pasts that define the way they are. They face many obstacles to be together but in the end love does conquer all. They're a mess with each other and a mess without each other. Which makes them exactly as the book says- A Beautiful Disaster.

“I fucking love you, Abby. I love you more than I’ve loved
anyone or anything, ever.” - Travis

This book is a must read! Check it out, you won't regret it!

Beautiful Disaster and other Recs

Check out Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker (Bk.2) by EL James. You'll absolutely adore the hero Christian Grey although if BDSM doesn't appeal to you, you may not like it as much but I found that though they introduced it a bit in the first novel, it wasn't emphasized heavily in the both novels, maybe more in the first because the heroine is learning things about him. I'm not a fan of BDSM either but it was their story together that dragged me in. (I can't help myself, I just rattle on and on about books I loved).
Also give Love Unscripted by Tina Reber a try. I recently read this one and it's a beautiful story about overcoming the obstacles to be with that one true love. It's a great book. Keeper Shelf!
I'll review all these books in due time. In the meantime look them up and you won't be disappointed I assure you.

Unrivaled- Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

So I’ve read a lot of books. Romances are my norm most of the time. I read fiction, lots of fiction. So the best book I’ve read so far is Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. I read this book, based on over hundreds of positive reviews that I read online. I'd been looking for a book with a hero just like Travis and imagine my delight with this find. In a store someone might not give it a second glance because of the book cover; it doesn't shout romance and love. I'll admit at first I was reluctant because of the cover but the saying is true, never judge a book by its cover because this book absolutely blew me away. It is a beautiful story. The hero Travis is so tortured but more than that, he loves the heroine so intensely. Now I'm not going to review this book because I know I'll just rattle on and on and possibly ruin the book for possible readers.
Travis loves her so much it makes him crazy at times. He's so possessive of his "Pigeon". (I've still not really gotten the nickname but i think it's cute nonetheless.) I love this book so much that I'm starting it over again. I love reading romances where the hero is the one thoroughly involved because it seems too many times, that the heroine is the one portrayed weakly and submissive, loving the hero more than he loves her. Travis was a refreshing character out of the sea of very similar ones. He was passionate and well just so intense about Abby that I even fell a bit in love with him too. They face many obstacles but through it all their love for each other remains true.
This blog post is meant to be short so in sum, check this book out. You'll most definitely love it because I know I did. Another book I recommend is the Fifty Shades series by EL James. But I'll get to that in my next post. It's a keeper just like Beautiful Disaster.

I need to refresh the awesomeness that is this book before I can give a good review so for now I'll link you to other reviews for this amazing story.

**For mature readers. Contains sexual situations and strong language**

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn't drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs--and wants--to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby's resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis' apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.
